Screenwriting

Bring an idea and break story with a pro. Each week we work live on your pages — what the story is really about, where it’s stalled, and what has to happen next. Structure, character, and dialogue come out of the working sessions, not lectures. Beginners welcome, and every story gets equal time. Led by Joe Jarvis, a WGA screenwriter with pitches and scripts sold to Disney, New Line Cinema, and Touchstone Pictures, and former Senior Vice President of Final Draft, the industry’s leading screenwriting software.

OVERVIEW

Bring an idea and break story with a pro. Each week we work live on your pages — what the story is really about, where it’s stalled, and what has to happen next. Structure, character, and dialogue come out of the working sessions, not lectures. Beginners welcome, and every story gets equal time. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Bring an idea. Leave with your story!

There’s a script inside you. Let’s get it onto the page.

You’ll work alongside a screenwriter who’s done this at the studio level — selling pitches, scripts, sequels, assignments, and punch-up work for places like Disney, New Line Cinema, and Touchstone Pictures, and working television production at HBO and TNT. He’s sold the pitch, taken the notes, and

made the deadline on studio budgets.

Screenwriting isn’t learned from a lecture. It’s learned the way the pros do it: by showing up to the page. Working under a deadline. Writing. So that’s what we do. Every week you’ll “break story” on the ideas and pages you bring in. Where’s the central dramatic question?  What does this character actually need, and what will it cost them? Where do the stakes have to escalate, and where does the whole thing turn? Structure, character, and dialogue stop being

abstractions the moment they’re solving your story — and that’s when they stick.

This is open to everyone. Whether you’ve been writing for years, wrote three pages in 2009, or just have a premise you can’t shake, you belong here. Every story gets equal time. No prerequisite but an idea and the willingness to play with it. Watch your story come into focus faster than you thought

possible.

The script you’ve been meaning to write is better than you think.

He later served as Senior Vice President of Final Draft, the industry-standard screenwriting software.
